A landmark case, or landmark decision, is a court decision published by the Supreme Court (Links to an external site.),  on some matter that is serious or important to a large number of  people. A landmark case, once decided, shows the usual way in which the Court (Links to an external site.)  will rule on such issues in the future, and sometimes sets how lower  courts must rule in the case of the same or a similar matter coming  before them. It is sometimes referred to as a precedent (Links to an external site.) setting case.

The paper should consist  of the following:

1. Include the background/history of the case.
2. Describe the Court’s decision.
3. Describe the majority and dissenting opinions.
4. Include your opinion.  Do you agree with the Court?  Why?  Why not?
5. You must have a works cited page.
