The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was signed into law in 1965 by President Johnson as a part of his war on poverty. Over the next thirty-seven years the ESEA was updated several times by different Presidents leading up to a major overhaul in 2002 when President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.  Thirteen years later, in 2015, President Obama signed the current reauthorization of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Documents found in this week’s module and the documents linked below will help you gain an understanding of the similarities and differences of both the NCLB and the ESSA. It will be important to synthesize information from all of these resources.

For this assignment:

1. Identify one of the many ways the ESSA changed what the NCLB mandated and describe how this change impacted public education on the state and district levels.

2. Discuss how the change, you identified above, has impacted the school level and specifically the school(s) where you have taught. Discuss the positive and negative aspects of the change along with any challenges faced during implementation.

3. As an administrator, what suggestions do you have to make certain this change positively impacts your school, teachers, and students?

It will be important to synthesize information from all of the attached documents.

You do need to cite each of the three PDF articles at least once within your paper.
