OUTLINE PORTFOLIO MILESTONE 4 Outline Portfolio Milestone Tamyra Mitchell ORG515- Dynamics of Power in Organization Colorado State University- CSU Global Outline Background & Framework Fred Hampton -Civil Right Activist and Revolutionary Socialist Fred Hampton was an American activist and revolutionary socialist, where he was a member of the Black Panther Movement and an active member of the NAACP. He was a remarkable leader within the Chicago area for African Americans (Flood, 2014, p. 38). Leadership Approach Equal Rights for African Americans in Chicago Fred Hampton provided equal education for African Americans in the Chicago area. He Stays focused on the mission. Fred Hampton stayed focused on his mission to provide equal rights for African Americans by helping students unite from various backgrounds and races to end segregation in the Chicago area. Create peace among rival groups in the Chicago area Fred Hampton could get local Chicago gangs to come together and put their differences to the stay and unite. Inspiring other leaders and other activists Within just 21 years, Fred Hampton was able to inspire many activists within the Chicago area. Fred Hampton’s leadership, charisma, and more was a threat to many and the powers placed during that time (Flood, 2014, p. 38). Background and Framework Michelle Obama, First Lady of The United States of America, Author, and Activist Michelle Obama was an accomplished lawyer in the Chicago area before she married her husband, Barack Obama, and becoming the first lady of the united states from 2009-2017 (Kahl, 2009, p. 319). Michelle is the first African American first lady. Leadership Approach Lead by example to reach goals Be personable and allow people to identify with Michelle Obama Be confident in promoting growth Always being compassionate and standing up for what you believe in and your values Leadership similarities between Mark & Sundar Both leaders inspire leaders and activists and always make sure to stand up for what they believe in by fighting for equality for African Americans and other social issues. When it comes to leadership, both approaches were based on uniting everyone together within the Chicago area—always demonstrating self-confidence as a leader and still speaking their mind for change. Running head: PROFOLIO MILESTONE 1 Portfolio Milestone: Leadership Analysis Presentation: Choose Your Leaders Tamyra Mitchell ORG 515 Colorado State University-Global Campus Leadership Analysis Presentation: Choose Your Leaders Discussing two leaders for my final project there are two leaders I would be discussing in my final project would be Michelle Obama and Fred Hampton. Both leaders played a huge part into the civil rights movement and achieving many goals for African American people. Fred Hampton was an American activist and revolutionary socialist. Fred Hampton was an active leader in the National Association for Advancement for Colored People (NAACP) and a member of the Black Panther Party in Chicago (Flood, 2014, p. 38). His mission as a leader was to have equal rights for African Americans in the United States where they will feel equal and providing education to many African American communities that did not receive the same benefits as many other communities (Flood, 2014, p. 38). Not only did Fred Hampton help with uniting students of different races and background he also convinced local gang members in Chicago to put aside their differences and unite. In just 21 years, Fred Hampton accomplished so much for African Americans in Chicago that he became a threat with the FBI and was murdered in a Chicago raid in 1969. Fred Hampton contributed a lot to African Americans and left a huge impact and a legacy that many realize Fred Hampton as a national leader (Flood, 2014, p. 38). The next leader I will be discussing in my final project would be Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama was more popular than her husband Barack Obama as United States previous first lady based on her leadership qualities and personality (Griffin, 2011, p. 139). Michelle Obama represent what a woman in a leadership represent and continue to be even after leaving the White House. Before she became the First Lady, Michelle Obama was already an accomplished lawyer in Chicago, a writer and a community activist. Once she became the First Lady Michelle Obama became a role model for many women in America (Kahl, 2009, p. 319). Within her 8 years as the First Lady she focused on racism, women rights and public health and even after leaving the White House she continues to address the same issues (Griffin, 2011, p. 139).
