Please remember that we will use proper netiquette when expressing our ideas and thoughts.  It is advised that you review the Rubric for Threaded Discussion hyperlinked below.     Although I appreciate the sharing of your own personal experiences, these topics are meant to be scientific.  Valid sources of scientific information using MLA or APA citation are required per the Rubric for Discussions.  Some examples of sources come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute of Health, MedLine and Mayo Clinic. Cite sources to prevent plagiarism. Review the discussion rubric for grading criteria.  When multiple sources are being used, students will provide in-text citations to show which part(s) of their work came from which source(s).

Chapters 1 Discussion Topics

• Select ONE element from the periodic table that has some type of effect on the human body.
• Base your discussion on the following prompts:
• What diseases would cause this element to increase or decrease in the body?
• What level of this element could be toxic to the body?
• How could this level of element be measured?
• Is it a necessary element to maintain life?
• What artificial way could we obtain this element if depleted?
• What intervention could patients obtain to remove some of this element from the body?
• What body systems would be affected by imbalance of this element?
