The ability to ask meaningful questions is a fundamental yet often overlooked skill in the Designer’s toolkit.  I’ve noticed a clear correlation between the number of questions a designer asks throughout the process and the quality of the final design. There is much more to creating it’s about understanding your problem so that the solution is obvious. In order to understand the challenge at hand, designers must ask great questions at every stage of the process. The audience you are writing for is very important, and the age or grade level of the learners you want to learn the material presented. The cognitive level of learners is also important, and understanding that young learners need simple sentences, kid-friendly image problems that cannot be too complex. In contrast, as the age of the learner’s increases, the complexity of the wording and interactions should increase. With adult learners, you also need to be careful not to use over-simplistic images and content, even if the material is at the elementary level.

A learning objective should describe what students should know or be able to do at the end of the course that they couldn’t do it before. Learning objectives should be brief, clear, specific statements of what learners will be able to do at the end of a lesson as a result of the activities, teaching, and learning that has taken place. They are sometimes called learning outcomes. The Learning objective or objectives that you use can be based on three areas of learning: knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Learning objectives define learning outcomes and focus on teaching. They help to clarify, organize and prioritize learning. They help you and your students evaluate progress and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning. As part of your planning, you need to decide what your students need to be able to DO after they have learned something that you have taught. Beginning your planning with the learning objectives will also help you ensure that your tasks and activities are appropriate and will help your students achieve their objectives. Learning objectives that I will use are, by the end of this course students will be able to identify and develop different ways to solve problems. Students will develop and demonstrate proficiency in writing and verbal skills.
